KISSBOBO Lactational Amenorrhea Method (LAM) When fully breastfeeding, during the first six months postpartum and in the absence of menstruation, LAM can provide temporary contraception. Note: It is not 100% reliable, and the effectiveness decreases as breastfeeding frequency reduces or when solid foods are introduced. Condoms Condoms are a safe, reliable, non-hormonal contraceptive method that can also prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Note: Make sure to use condoms correctly to avoid the risk of unintended pregnancy. Intrauterine Device (IUD) The IUD can be inserted six weeks postpartum for long-term contraception and does not interfere with breastfeeding. Note: Ensure the uterus has fully recovered before insertion, and regularly check the IUD’s placement. Oral Contraceptives Progestin-only pills are suitable for breastfeeding mothers as they do not affect milk supply. Combined oral contraceptives (containing estrogen) are not recommended during breastfeeding as they may reduce milk production. Note: Oral contraceptives must be taken at the same time each day to ensure effectiveness. Contraceptive Injections Progestin-only injections are administered every three months and are suitable for breastfeeding women. Note: Possible side effects include irregular menstruation or weight gain; consult a doctor for guidance. Contraceptive Implants A progestin implant placed under the skin provides contraception for up to three years and does not affect breastfeeding. Note: Regular check-ups are necessary to ensure there are no adverse effects. Natural Family Planning (Safe Period, Basal Body Temperature Method) This method relies on tracking the menstrual cycle or body temperature to determine the "safe" days. Note: Postpartum menstrual cycles may be irregular, and ovulation is harder to predict during breastfeeding, making this method less reliable. Tubal Ligation (for women) / Vasectomy (for men) These are permanent contraceptive methods suitable for couples who do not plan to have more children. Note: This is an irreversible decision and should be carefully considered.
